It's not exactly an intimate relationship - at least not in most cases: digital transformation and industrial production. Nevertheless, machines, systems, sensors and control systems are increasingly digitized and networked. Or rather, they need to become increasingly networked in order to be competitive. However, the downside is obvious. Because this also increases potential points of attack for cyber criminals. While traditional IT is at least protected by firewalls, monitoring, security solutions and regular updates, security in operational technology (OT) often lags behind. We shed light on the specific challenges of OT security, analyze current developments and show why IT security will play an even more central role in the industry in the future. Where is the future of OT heading?
