Shortage of skilled labour
Around 70% of companies have unfilled vacancies in the IT sector. The shortage of skilled labour is particularly severe in IT security. At the same time, it is important to bear this in mind: Cyberattacks are constantly on the rise. As a result, IT departments are often overloaded. Companies are unable to adequately cover key aspects of IT. Reversing this trend or finding other solutions to remedy the situation - that is the big challenge.
Mobile working & home office
The pandemic has shown that work should be flexible. There is often a need to catch up here. In the course of the digital transformation flexibility is finally becoming the order of the day - in order to remain competitive, to attract skilled workers and to organise work in a contemporary way. However, in technical terms, this also means that work is no longer carried out exclusively via a local infrastructure, but remotely or in a home office. It is therefore important to ensure that all the necessary technologies are available. On the other hand, IT security issues also arise here.
The cloud
It has arrived in the mainstream of companies and the advantages have been recognised: the cloud. Depending on how it is implemented, it offers the prospect of greater speed, scalability and economic added value. However, implementation is usually slow. The cloud should be embedded in an overall strategy. Data security is also a particularly important component here. Data and access must be permanently monitored and secured. The same applies to the gateways for which the cloud could be just the entry point. This applies to all types of cloud.
Cyber security & data protection
Transitions means change. This is particularly true of digital change - in terms of what needs to be protected. Never before has so much and so diverse data been generated, collected and stored in companies. The same applies to the infrastructures and systems that need to be protected. With the growing threat of cyber attacks, the need to constantly strengthen and expand cyber security and data protection is also increasing. Added to this are fixed regulations, e.g. the EU GDPR, or the identification and optimisation of further weak points, such as the security behaviour of employees.
Green IT
Sustainability is also on the rise in IT. Often of its own accord, but also due to firmly set goals, competition, legal regulations or for image reasons. IT can proactively protect the environment, e.g. through smart control options. On the other hand, IT is also a problem, primarily in terms of the consumption of resources, mainly energy. Here, companies need to make important adjustments towards sustainability, but also find individual compromises according to the motto ‘best of both worlds’. Environmental labelling in procurement, cloud technologies and efficient energy and life cycle management can help here. In this way, ecological challenges often become cost, effectiveness and ultimately competitive advantages.
